The Itch To Win Brownie Points
It's hard to torpedo the enthusiasm and never-say-die spirit of leading popcorn manufacturers when it comes to winning the plaudits of an entire generation of popcorn lovers. In fact, such is the hypnotic power of advertising that they manage to seize customers by an irresistible impulse to bite into their cauldron of delectable varieties.
The following experiment seeks to challenge the insularity of the public with respect to the best brands. Remember, the most widely used brands do not always give consistent results.
The Line-Up Includes...
Here's what you'll need to start your experiment with:
- A bag each of Acme, Best Brand, Xtreme and Top-Dog microwave popcorn.
- A 500 watt microwave oven
- A large plastic bowl
- One small plastic bowl
Let's Get Started
Once all the materials are in place, it's time to set the ball rolling. Here's how:
- Remove the bag of the first brand out of its packaging.
- Place the bag in the microwave and cook the same for a maximum of three minutes on high power. Make sure you read the instructions on the bag carefully.
- Wait for 30 seconds, thus allowing all the steam to escape. Open the bag carefully.
- Empty the contents into a large bowl.
- Separate all the unpopped kernels from the popped popcorn in a smaller bowl.
- Count the number of unpopped kernels and record your findings on a sheet. Now repeat the same process for all the remaining brands.
