How to Make Raw Fruit Smoothies

Raw fruit smoothies are one of the tastiest smoothies on the planet. Not only are they tasty, they are also very healthy for the body, and can help in fighting many different types of common ailments and diseases. Raw fruit smoothies are quick and easy to make, and the cleanup is very minimal. To make the smoothies, all you need is some fresh fruits and a blender.

Before you get started on making raw fruit smoothies, you should be familiar with what types of fruits go well with each other. In general, most fruits go good together, but some have more sweetness, and thus are essential for adding more flavor, while others can provide the texture that you are looking for.

Smoothie Recipe

Avocados for example, are the best fruit to add to your smoothies to help provide a smooth and creamy texture to just about any smoothie. They go well with just about any fruit such as a banana, mango, pineapple, coconut, apples, peaches and many others.

Bananas, mangoes, apples and peaches are naturally sweet, and thus adding them into the smoothie will eliminate the need for any type of sweetener.

Next you will also need to have a liquid base. With some fruits such as oranges, pineapples and mangoes, you might not need a base; but for fruits that do not have as much liquid, extra fluid will be required, especially if you are adding in other dry ingredients. You can use just about any type of fluid, as long as it compliments the fruits in the blender. These can include water, fresh fruit juices, nut milk or even cooled tea.

Then for extra flavoring, you can add superfood powders such as raw cacao, maca powder, acai, ashwagandha and many others that will go with the fruits in the blender. Spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves also go good with many fruits, and thus can be added for a spicy fruit smoothie.

For extra nutrition such as healthy fats and protein, you can add nuts and seeds in with your fruit smoothie to give them a nutty flavor. Almonds, pecans, walnuts, flax seeds and chia seeds are excellent for adding into a smoothie. Berries such as goji berries, strawberries and blueberries are also tasty and will complement just about any fruits that you enjoy.

Another thing that you can do with the fruit smoothies is to add ice. Although ice is not ideal, as it can cause buildup within the digestive tract, it can however, help to cool you down on a hot summer day. Or, instead of ice, use frozen fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches and other fruits that you can freeze. Just don't allow the fruits to freeze too long, as that can contribute to an odd taste in the smoothies.

You can enjoy raw fruit smoothies at any time of the day for a refreshing snack or even as a meal. They are a great way to start the day, as they can provide you with lots of healthy energy. And the best part is, is that they do not contain any food additives or any unnatural ingredients.

Fruit smoothies are excellent smoothies to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Not only are they tasty, but in general they are also low in calories, which is very helpful for weight loss. In addition, fruits naturally contain a lot of nutrients that can help to fill you up. And the sugar is an added bonus. It won't benefit you too much, but it can help you to reach for other foods high in processed sugar.

Fruit Smoothie Popularity Is Growing

Probably nothing says more about how popular smoothies have become than the fact that McDonalds has now added two flavors of smoothies to their menu. They offer "Wild Berry" which is a blend of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and some other flavors and the always popular "Strawberry Banana".

The ingredients of these two new menu items are not as bad as you might suppose, but they are very typical of modern food produced on an industrial scale. The "Wild Berry" flavor is concocted with: "strawberry puree, water, sugar, blackberry puree, blueberry puree, concentrated pineapple juice, concentrated apple juice". Complete ingredient information can be found at nutrition.mcdonalds.com. The "strawberry banana blend is much the same but uses banana puree instead of blueberry and blackberry. And it leaves out the pineapple and apple juice as well.

Smoothie Recipe

Nutritionally, neither of these smoothies is too bad. For the Strawberry Banana flavor a 16 fluid ounce cup (medium) the information is:

  • 260 calories
  • 1 gram of Fat
  • No saturated or Trans fat
  • 5 milligrams cholesterol
  • 40 milligrams sodium
  • 60 grams Carbohydrates
  • 3 grams Dietary Fiber
  • 54 grams Sugars
  • 2 grams Protein
  • vitamins A and C
  • minerals Calcium and Iron

The Wild Berry Smoothie has much the same nutritional information. Again complete nutritional information can be found at http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com.

McDonalds is to be commended for adding these two fruit smoothie items to their menu with such a reasonable nutritional make up. When compared with other items on the McDonalds menu, these smoothies stand out as beacons of restraint.

The other benefit to these smoothies being offered is that it will increase the popularity of smoothies overall. More and more people will become interested in fruit smoothie recipes as a very healthy food choice and begin to make them at home as snacks and desserts instead of eating higher calorie choices like sweets and junk food. There are many places to find smoothie recipes and you might well be surprised at how many different possibilities there are to make a very tasty smoothie with a huge variety of ingredients.

There's a lot of truth the old saying: "You are what you eat." This is especially true when it comes to eating for a great body and optimal fitness. For women - exercise and nutrition are the key weapons in repairing or preserving a firm, toned and shapely butt, hip and thigh area.

It doesn't matter how young or how old you are - the quality of the foods you eat have a direct impact on how you look, feel and function. Proper exercise gives you the correct stimulus in the areas you want to enhance - and proper foods give you the nutrients, vitamins and minerals to allow your body to look and function at it's highest level.

Smoothie Recipe

One of the best 'unknown' foods you can add to your diet is ground flax seeds. They provide a great balance of protein, fiber and fatty acids (omega-3's). They also work wonders in appetite control and blood sugar stabilization.

Flax seeds are so popular and readily available now - you can even find them at your local grocery store. If not - you can find them at many nutrition sites on the internet. Once you have your flax seeds - there is no end to the number of ways you can add them to your daily meals. Here is just one quick and easy way:

Tight Booty Banana-Berry Smoothie

3 Tbsp. milled or ground flax seed (preferably organic)
6 - 7 ice cubes
1/4 teaspoon of stevia powder extract (preferably organic)

Place all ingredients in a blender and mix on medium-high speed for 45 seconds or until smoothly whipped. Pour into 4 glasses and serve immediately for you and your lucky guests.

Makes 4 servings.
Each serving: 160 calories;
6 g dietary fiber;
28 g carbohydrates;
5 g protein;
5 g fat (less than 1 g saturated fat);

This is just one way to feed your body the elements it needs to stay tightly toned and firmly lifted. For women who want to regain, or preserve and maintain, a sexy eye-catching butt hip and thigh area - its a matter of doing the small things consistently - to get the results you desire.

The Incredible Hulk Smoothie

Every mom who has ever tried to "clean up" their family's diet by adding more vegetables has been faced with this dilemma. How do I get them to eat something really healthful like spinach when they wrinkle their noses and refuse before they've even tasted it? I have found that starting with raw greens often works better than with cooked. It is a textural thing.

Learning to be sneaky with vegetables is a good way to get children to try things they would normally make a fuss over. Some simple ways to do this are: putting raw greens in smoothies (such as this recipe), adding shredded vegetables to casseroles like lasagna, kneading shredded vegetables into meatloaf or meatballs, baking shredded vegetables into muffins and tea breads and juicing vegetables with fruits. The key to being successful to being persistent! Don't give up because you meet resistance.

Smoothie Recipe

Gradually, try making the transition from "hiding" the vegetables in other foods to introducing them a little less disguised. For instance; serving raw zucchini sticks with a healthful dip, making a game out juicing by letting kids pick from four, five or six different colors and letting them drop the produce into the juicer, giving them positive praise for trying something new (even if they didn't like it). Never bribe a child with unhealthy snacks to get them to eat vegetables. That rather defeats the purpose of eating the healthy food in the first place.

This smoothie got it's name from a friend of mine whose three year old son is not crazy about spinach. I had prepared this vitamin and mineral packed concoction for a cooking demonstration a couple of years ago. The audience became a little skittish when they saw great, heaping piles of spinach going into the blenders. I assured them all would be well; no one would be drinking a salad! To the amazement of the entire group; the bright, grass green drink was sweet and delicious without a hint of the taste of raw spinach. My friend went home and prepared the drink for her son and informed him it was "the Incredible Hulk" smoothie because of it's verdant color. The child promplty chugged the drink without a whimper!

I have decided to share the recipe with my readers. I hope you will give it a try. Note: My recipe uses raw almond milk which I prepare at home. This is a simple process that can be done ahead. Raw almond milk will keep for about four days in the refrigerator. Soak one cup of raw organic almonds overnight in purified drinking water. In the morning, discard the water and place the almonds in the blender. Pour in one cup of fresh water and blend until crushed into small pieces. Fill the blender the rest of the way with purified drinking water and blend on high for 2 minutes. Place a colander or wire strainer on the rim of a bowl and line with a clean, white organic cotton towel or a nut bag (sold online or in health food stores expressly for this purpose). Pour contents of blender into the cloth. When all of the visible liquid has drained out; twist the cloth tightly closed around the ball of nut meal. Squeeze this until you cannot get any more liquid. Store in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator. If you do not have the time or interest to make raw almond milk; commercially prepared almond milk is available. Just take care to purchase the unsweetened variety as the others contain unnecessary sugar.

Here is The Incredible Hulk Smoothie. Enjoy!

1 1/2 cups raw or commercially prepared unsweetened almond milk
1 large banana
1 scoop unflavored or vanilla protein powder of choice *optional
2 large handfuls of washed, stemmed raw spinach (about a cup of packed leaves)
1 1/2 - 2 cups frozen mango chunks

Pour almond milk into the blender container and add the banana and protein powder (if using).
Process until banana is pureed and powder is dissolved.
Toss in raw spinach and blend until broken down. You may need to open blender and push down with a spatula a couple of times. It is not necessary for all the "flecks" to be blended away at the time.
Begin adding frozen mango chunks a few at a time. As the frozen fruit is broken down, this will smooth out the small flecks of spinach. Continue adding mango until desired consistency and flavor are achieved. This usually takes about 1 1/2 - 2 cups.
At this point the smoothie will be a bright, homogeneous green with no "pieces". This recipe makes two large servings.

Detox Smoothies, A Gentle Introduction To A Natural Body Detox

Detox smoothies are a great way to get started on a natural body detox. When our bodies are functioning at optimal levels, our internal organs ensure that the detoxification process is efficient and ongoing. However, with all the stresses on our bodies from pesticides, pollutants, hectic lifestyles and the non-organic, refined food diet that many of us eat, our bodies struggle to keep up with detoxification. Detox smoothies help our bodies to get a 'kick start', now and then.

Strict detox plans are often hard to follow, they are too severe. Detox Smoothies are a really easy way to get started as you can begin by just replacing one meal or snack each day. This is no hardship but you will see and feel benefits very soon. Some people could not follow a strict detox plan anyway, because of pre-existing medical conditions. For these people, a daily smoothie is a great way to get some natural body detox benefits.

Smoothie Recipe

You can make them at home in a smoothie blender, smoothie maker or even a food processor. Try to use organic ingredients wherever possible. If this is not possible, you should ensure all fruits and vegetables are thoroughly washed before use. A great benefit of making them at home is that you can get the freshest possible smoothies. If you make too much or cannot use all of it straight away, any left-over mixture can be frozen to retain much of the goodness.

There are other supplements you could consider adding to your detox smoothies and these include vitamin c, probiotics and chlorophyll. You can also use dried fruits, soak these overnight and use the liquid in the smoothie as well. Flax seeds are also a great addition as they have many health benefits.

Detox smoothies as part of a natural body detox are becoming more and more popular. It seems we are turning more and more to natural solutions to health problems. This can only be a good thing but as with prescription medicines, it is wise to be cautious. This is why I recommend beginning with Detox smoothies rather than launching into a strict detox plan as a gentle introduction to detoxification and a healthier, more radiant you.

Healthy Desserts

Healthy and dessert are two words that are not usually linked together. Maybe that's because we consider dessert to be a combination of sugar and fat, loaded with calories and other bad stuff. The reality of a healthy dessert can be yours though if you are willing to try something different. Oh yeah, fruit is already a dessert in some countries, but in the USA we consider it a treat only when it's baked inside some kind of crust and loaded with sugar.

Granted, if you have a serious sweet tooth, this alternative healthy stuff is probably not going to satisfy you but if you are also trying to be healthier and weigh less, it will help a lot. The easiest way to give yourself a healthy treat is to go for a really good yogurt-like Bulgarian yogurt, or Greek yogurt-which can be found in your local health food store. Then wander down the aisle where they keep the cacao products and grab yourself a package of cacao nibs. To that you can add some Goji berries or golden currants but stay away from the Incan golden-berries unless you are a great fan of TART and sour tastes (those little things may be packed with great antioxidant power but boy, are they tart). Throw in some chopped nuts, add a little stevia for sweetness, mix it all up, and you have a great healthy dessert. Another healthy treat is to put the same things in some ricotta cheese. That's a little heavier but just as tasty and usually doesn't require any sweetener.

Smoothie Recipe

Okay now let's get real and talk about chocolate, which is what you are really reading this for right? Yes, you can have your chocolate and still be eating something healthy. The cacao bean is chock full of antioxidant power; it's the sugar that gets added that is the problem. You can get the cacao bean and grind it up with some coconut oil or organic cream and get yourself a creamy treat but you'll still have to add some sweetness to it. You can get the sweetness either from stevia (a natural-source sweetener called Honey Leaf) or just add honey, fruit juice or sugar. To be healthiest though, use stevia. If you just make the creamy cacao mixture you can spread it on something healthy like apple slices or make some almond bark. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be a healthy dessert, right?

Another healthy alternative is to put some nut butter on fruit; that works best on apple or pear slices but you can always thin the butter out a bit with some coconut oil or cacao and dip strawberries, cherries and the like...and then roll them in nuts. Whipped cream is also an easy addition to make some fresh fruit special and if you fry some bananas in butter or coconut oil, dip them in cacao cream and then throw some chopped nuts on them, with a dollop of whipped cream...well...Elvis would have gone for that, I'm sure.

Acid Reflux - What to Drink for It

Some people think ahead, and plan a drink with meals that will help avoid acid reflux. Others Wait, and look for a drink that will relieve acid reflux. Whichever your style, here are a few tips on what to drink for acid reflux.

Acid Reflux - What Not to Drink

Smoothie Recipe

There are four beverages you may want to avoid if you have trouble with acid reflux: alcohol, coffee, peppermint tea, and milk.

1. Alcohol: There is some debate about whether or not alcohol causes acid reflux. Some warn against all alcohol, while others caution only against a very dry white wine, which tends to have high acidity. If you have acid reflux on a frequent basis, you may want to experiment as to whether it is worse or better after drinking alcohol.

2. Coffee: There is an ongoing debate as to whether coffee is to blame for acid reflux. People have thought so for many years. In fact, people believed this so strongly that coffee companies finally decided there was a market for a "smoother" coffee that did not cause acid reflux. A relatively recent study by Stanford University researchers, however, found no scientific evidence to support the notion that eliminating coffee gives relief from acid reflux. The study, which appeared in the May 2006 issue of "The Archives of Internal Medicine," evaluated published medical reports from 1975 to 2004 on heartburn.

3. Peppermint: Many people suggest avoiding products containing peppermint. Peppermint tea, which sounds so soothing, can increase acid reflux. Peppermint appears to permit the passage of acid from stomach to esophagus.

4. Milk: Many doctors agree that drinking milk with meals may cause acid reflux in adults. Non-professionals believe milk neutralizes stomach acid, making it difficult to digest food. The result can be acid reflux.

Acid Reflux - What to Drink

There are a number of drinks you may want to try for acid reflux. Most fall under the category of folk remedy, but many people get relief with them. This information is for educational purposes only, of course. Please seek advice from your physician before drinking any of these.

1. Slippery Elm Bark Tea: Health food stores usually have slippery elm bark tea. Drink the bark tea with your meal to avoid acid reflux. Bark tea coats the esophagus lining, reducing its sensitivity to acid. If you want to make the tea at home, try to purchase the shredded bark. Use the inner part of the bark, and steep it in hot water for your acid reflux tea. This makes a thick beverage, with a consistency similar to runny gelatin. If it is too thick for you, simply add more hot water.

2. Ginger Tea: Ginger tea also is available in health food stores, and is helpful for acid reflux when used either with the meal or immediately following the meal. It is easily made at home. Use 1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger root, or 1,000 mg of ginger powder. If neither is available, use ground ginger from the spice rack. Steep the ginger in 1 cup boiling water for 5 minutes, and then sip. Ginger is helpful for indigestion and acid reflux, especially if caused by spicy foods.

3. Licorice Tea: Licorice tea is also effective in the battle against acid reflux. Purchase your tea, or make it by placing 1 teaspoon of licorice root in 1 1/4 cups of boiling water. Turn the heat low, and simmer the tea for 10 to 15 minutes in a covered pan. Remove from heat, and stir in 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile. Cover and allow your acid reflux tea to steep for 10 minutes. Strain it before drinking.

CAUTION: NEVER use licorice tea for acid reflux if you have high blood pressure (hypertension).

4. Clove-Ade: If you prefer a cold drink rather than tea, you may get relief from acid reflux by drinking a glass of clove-ade. Simply add a few drops of clove oil to a glass of cold water. Stir, and sip the clove-ade slowly to offset acid reflux.

5. Banana Milk-less Smoothies: Bananas seem to be very effective as an acid reflux fighter. Bananas become a natural antacid in the body. Banana milk-less smoothies are a cool way to use the banana's ability to fight acid reflux. Start smoothies the night before by placing 1 banana, peeled and cut in pieces, into a freezer container. The next day, put the frozen banana chunks in a blender with 3 cups of soy milk, 1 cup of frozen strawberries, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Add sugar or other sweetener to taste, and blend until smooth. Sip slowly to relieve acid reflux.

Heartburn, acid reflux, GERD, or indigestion: people have found relief for all of them by abstaining from drinking certain beverages, making a point of drinking other beverages.

Basil is a popular herb in Italian cooking, particularly in pesto. This fragrant and flavorful herb, a relative of peppermint, is an excellent, nutritious addition to your pasta sauce, soup, or salad.

An array of flavonoids exist in basil, which help to protect cells and chromosomes from damage. Studies have shown that two of these flavonoids in particular, orientin and vicenin, are useful in protecting cell structures and chromosomes from damage by radiation and oxygen.

Smoothie Recipe

Essential oil of basil has been shown to inhibit the growth of several types of bacteria, many of which have become resistant to antibiotics. This essential oil has been found to inhibit growth of the widespread staphylococcus, enterococcus, pseudomonas, and e. coli bacteria, among others. Adding basil to your vinaigrette will both enhance the flavor, and ensure that the fresh salad greens are safe to eat.

Eugenol, which is found in essential oil of basil, provides an anti-inflammatory effect, by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase. Aspirin and Ibuprofen work by blocking this same enzyme. So, basil can have healing benefits, and provide relief from the symptoms of inflammatory problems, like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel conditions.

Basil is also a good source of vitamin A, which helps to prevent damage to the cells by free radicals. Vitamin A also prevents free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol in the blood stream, preventing the cholesterol from building up in the blood vessels.

Magnesium is also present in basil. This essential mineral helps the heart and blood vessels to relax, improving blood flow. Other nutrients found in basil include iron, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C.

The fresh, spicy flavor and scent of basil will wake up any boring salad or soup. Use fresh basil whole, or shredded to add a burst of flavor to your dinner. If you are using fresh basil in a cooked dish, add it towards the end of cooking, so that the volatile oils will not be dissipated by the heat.

Four To Die For Dessert Yeast Free Diet Recipes!

For me the greatest struggle on a candida diet has to be not being allowed to have your favorite dessert items. Sometimes living yeast free can get discouraging, mainly when you begin to experience a craving for one of your favorite desserts or sweets. When those moments occur it will be challenging for you to resist. However there are things you can do. By being prepared with the proper ingredients you can work your way through these cravings, especially after having finished the beginning stricter detox phase of the diet.

In this article I'm going to share some yummy yeast free diet recipes allowable under most versions of the diet. These recipes contain Stevia although if you prefer another sugar substitute that is allowed then by all means go ahead and use that instead.

Smoothie Recipe

#1 Smoothie

Use a blender to combine three tablespoons of peanut butter (sugar free), a cup of yogurt preferably plain, two tablespoons of whipping cream, then two teaspoons of non-sweetened cocoa powder, a small amount of Stevia and a couple of ice cubes. Next blend the mixture together until it gets smooth and then all that's left is to serve and enjoy. This recipe is good for one serving.

Another variation on this smoothie is to place in the freezer and serve once it's reached a slushier consistency like that of ice cream.

#2 Vanilla Custard Desserts

Combine two cups of milk and ten drops of Stevia extract. Heat up mixture till boiling in a medium saucepan; then allow cooling down period of approximately ten minutes. In a different bowl combine three eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/8 teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg. Next beat this mixture until smooth. Now begin to slowly beat in the first bowl of ingredients. Pour finished mixture into four serving size cups or into a little casserole dish.

Next using a roasting pan add approximately an inch of water and place the cups or dish (whichever you used) in the pan and begin to bake in 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for between fifty and sixty minutes. Please leave the pan uncovered while baking. After it has finished remove oven and pan, put on rack until cooled then place in the refrigerator to chill until they are ready to be served.

#3 Brownies Delight!

Be Aware! These treats are tasty but not low in fat!

First preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then in a bowl, beat ½ cup of soft butter, two eggs, 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla, and 1/3 cup of grated zucchini. Next add in 1/3 cup of non-wheat flour (such as oat or amaranth), 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa, 1/3 cup of rice flour, and ½ teaspoon of Stevia powder ( you can also use ten drops of Stevia extract). Mix ingredients and then fan out evenly in an eight inch pan. Next bake for anywhere between ten and thirteen minutes. Be sure not to over bake! Don't be alarmed the brownies won't rise and can seem oily as baking. This is due to the butter. Don't worry this will lessen as it begins to cool. All that's left is to serve (excellent when warm).

#4 Berries and Cream

This recipe is nice and simple just as the name implies. All you need to do is spoon three or four tablespoons of cream (preferably heavy whipping) over some fresh fruits or if you prefer frozen fruits. If you want you can also top it off with a light amount of Stevia. Now all that's left to do is serve it in a cup or glass and you're all done. There you have it a simple yet elegant dessert that tastes great and cures those late night cravings.

So as you can see by using the right ingredients and taking some time preparing them you can go a long way into making a no yeast diet much more palatable and easy to stick to in the long run.

Benefits of Juicer Drinks and Smoothie Drinks

The benefits of juicer recipes and smoothie recipes are numerous. One main reason why juicing and drinking smoothies is so important is because both are filled with liquids like water. Our bodies need water to survive and thrive and so few people actually get enough water every day. Rarely will someone sit down and eat several carrots, celery, apples, oranges, and yogurt. If we combine all of them in a delicious smoothie, the body gets the liquids, the vitamins, and the minerals that the body needs.

Veggies and fruits contain essential nutrients that the body needs like vitamin C and A and beta carotene. Fruits are the number one source for minerals like magnesium, iron, iodine, sodium, copper, and potassium. These nutrients are essential for the body to function the way it needs to. When a fruit is consumed in the traditional way of eating it, the food has to go thru the traditional digestion cycle. When the fruit is juiced, the body is able to absorb and use the juice so much more quickly. The act of juicing separates the juice from the fiber and pulp of the fruit. The fiber and pulp are good for the body, but the juice is best. The body can only get a small amount of the nutrients unless it is removed from the fiber and pulp.

Smoothie Recipe

There is something in the smoothie world known as green smoothies. Traditionally smoothies were made with fruit and yogurt and usually had a sweet taste to them. As the world started getting more in touch with their healthy side, more people started experimenting with smoothies. Green smoothies have different ingredients in them that give them the not so pretty color. One way smoothies benefit and help to improve health is by helping us lose weight. A smoothie usually has less calorie then traditional food and has a lot less fat. Because smoothies are made from natural ingredients, the preservatives are way down also. Instead of reaching for a hamburger at a drive through, someone can whip up a smoothie with very little time and effort involved.

If you are like me, you crave sugar all the time. It is a daily battle with myself to not go to the vending machine and get a snickers. I don't even realize all of the sugar I am putting in my body. It starts with my coffee and even at lunch I get sugar in my salad dressing. The green smoothies help reduce the cravings the body has for the sugar and fat.

Kale and Green Smoothies

Kale is an excellent leafy green vegetable to use when making green smoothies. What is this smoothie and what is kale? A green smoothie is a blended drink that contains approximately 60% fruit and 40% vegetables and combines the sweetness of fruit with nutrient and fiber rich green vegetables resulting in a great tasting, and great for you, blended drink.

Kale is a leafy green cruciferous vegetable that is similar to collards and packed with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Kale provides over 100% of the daily requirements of vitamins K and A and about 90% of vitamin C. Other major nutrients include manganese, calcium and fiber. Phytonutrients are the powerhouse components in kale. Studies have shown that the phytonutrients in kale cause the liver to produce enzymes and antioxidants that detoxify and eliminate cancer causing chemicals and cells in the human body. The compounds in cruciferous vegetables, like kale, signal our genes to increase body cleansing enzymes through which our bodies eliminate harmful elements before they cause cell oxidation and mutations.

Smoothie Recipe

Use kale as a green vegetable in green smoothies. Unlike home made juices, these smoothies contain the whole green vegetable leaf. Thus, the vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and fiber content is maximized. Green smoothies taste great, are great for you and are easy to make with a blender.

Try making this delicious, green smoothie recipe, which features kale, in your blender.

Many people report that the acai berry has numerous benefits, which is part of the reason why it has become so popular today. Despite its benefits, the acai berry cannot be found in most stores in its berry form because of how quickly it loses its nutritional value once it has been picked. Instead of selling the actual berry in the store, most stores sell acai juice, powder, or pulp. The good news is that all three of these forms can be used to create some of the most delicious Acai Berry Smoothies that you have ever tasted.

Basic Smoothie Ingredients

When making smoothies you will want to make sure you have some basic ingredients on hand. With these basic ingredients, a bowl full of fruit, vegetables, and your imagination you will surely come up with some fabulously delicious and original smoothie recipes!

Yogurt - Yogurt is a really great base for all smoothies. It gives it a great texture. Vanilla yogurt goes great with any smoothie, but you can also change it up a bit and keep several different flavors on hand like lemon and strawberry yogurt.

Smoothie Recipe

Milk - Using milk in a smoothie is way better than using water. It gives the smoothie more flavor and texture. If you are a vegetarian or lactose intolerant than Soy milk will do. I prefer the vanilla flavored soy milk. My favorite is the 8th continent light vanilla soy milk.

Juice - Orange juice serves a great base for a sweeter smoothie. Apple juice and grape juice can also be used as well.

Tofu - Adding a little tofu to a smoothie is a great way to get a low fat good for you protein in your diet. Combined with the soy milk you could easily net 6 grams of protein in ONE smoothie.

Ice - Use ice in your smoothie if you are wanting to make your smoothie thicker.

Sweetener & Salt - Using sweetener and a pinch of salt can really make the flavors of your smoothie more distinct.

Making smoothies is about having fun! Now that you have the basic ingredients on hand start throwing some of them together and let your imagination run wild.

Fruit Smoothie Recipes - Cleanse Smart

If you are not a person who has been eating fruit on a regular basis, and by "regular" I mean the FDA recommended 5 servings a day, and then start to eat fruit, your body is going to react by detoxifying itself whether you planned it or not.

If you did plan it, good for you. Detoxifying yourself is a very good thing to do every now and then and fruits will help you do it naturally and safely. The last thing you want to do is start ingesting even more chemicals (like the type that are sold to "detox" your system). While these ads are models of marketing and hype they fail to pass the common sense test.

Smoothie Recipe

After all, mother nature has been working on the human body for several hundreds of thousands of years and, up to now, has done a pretty good job of keeping us healthy by providing everything we need as long as we're smart enough to take advantage of it.

This is where fruits and vegetables come in. One thing that has changed dramatically over the last 100 or so years is our diet. No longer are we growing most of our own food, nor is the food we are eating necessarily the best for us. Where our great-great grandparents existed on a diet of very low fat along with a lot of whole grains and vegetables, we now eat more and more processed foods which have been put together from recipes designed to attract the greatest number of customers rather than the healthiest.

This is something of a paradox because, overall, the food we eat today is much healthier than what was around 150 years ago. We know much more about both sanitation and nutrition. The problem is that a hamburger and fries just taste so much better than fruits and vegetables!

By adding vegetables, and especially fruit, back into your diet, your body is going to go to work to rid itself of the fat and toxic waste products. The best fruits for the job are the more acidic ones such as red grapefruit and lemons. All citrus fruit is acidic to some degree and also tomatoes and pineapples.

I think the best way to begin a fruit detox program is to start in the morning because your body is still working through what you fed it the night before. Try to eat nothing but fruit until about noon.

Here is a fruit smoothie recipe that will get you started on the right track to a detox process:

  • 1/2 cup grapefruit juice
  • 12 cup strawberries (fresh is best, frozen is OK)
  • 1 cup peach slices (again, fresh if you can)
  • 1 tsp Mila refined chia seed
Blend in your smoothie blender until smooth. Use ice cubes if you need to thin it a bit. You can also add a tbsp of honey for natural sweetness.

Kefir Tropical Smoothie

Kefir is the new "old" food on the market for health! It has been a part of traditional cultures for thousands of years for its health benefits. Now it is becoming popular for boosting the immune system and restoring the intestinal flora in the digestive tract. Here is a smoothie that is healthy and tastes delicious. It is a wonderful way to get all the beneficial bacteria in your daily diet. The yogurt in the recipe adds additional benefits.

What You Need:
1 15 oz. can pineapple chunks, with juice
2 bananas
1 apple, diced
¼ - ½ cup coconut water
1 cup yogurt
½ - 1 cup kefir
6 ice cubes
Coconut flakes, unsweetened

Smoothie Recipe

Pour the pineapple chunks with the juice into the blender. Slice the bananas in chunks and put them in with the apple, coconut water, yogurt and ice cubes. Blend on ice setting until smooth. Then add the kefir and stir or blend in on a slower speed. It is recommended to put kefir in last to maintain the active bacteria. Heat and too much whipping will destroy them. Top with a sprinkle of coconut flakes.

The pineapple is full of vitamin C. The bananas and coconut water provide an excellent amount of potassium, which is so important during the hot weather months, or when you are recuperating from illness. The apple has fiber and vitamin C and supports the heart and cardiovascular system. Yogurt and kefir both have good bacteria but have different strains. Kefir has more strains of bacteria than yogurt and also has good yeasts. These are all essential to reestablish in the digestive system.

So make a kefir smoothie every day to keep replenishing all that good bacteria. Your immune system will thank you.

Green Smoothie Recipe For Better Health

If you don't own a Vita Mix, may I suggest you invest in one. There are certainly a million recipes where the Vita Blend is applied and it is worth every penny. Often times your local Costco will have the Vita Mix Organization come in to do three days of demonstrations. Check with Costco online for facts. The unit can also be purchased directly from the Vita Blend Business itself. Anyway, if you don't have one, a regular blender will just have to do.

The following drink can be a powerful green recipe that keeps all from the fiber intact, which makes the recipe itself even healthier. I make enough for 3 days and every day I consume a quart. No matter what anybody may say, the drink is as fresh and tasty on day 3 as it's on day 1.

Smoothie Recipe

Green Smoothies can often be associated with the Liver. They are often used as a food that supports and helps keep the liver healthy.

I use only organic vegetables. Nevertheless, if organic is not accessible, then I use whatever other greens I may have. Of all vegetables, celery is the only one that actually will be really helpful to be organic. Be creative, play using the beverage, change it around and make it your own.

* Two stalks of celery

* A handful of parsley

* A handful of cilantro

* A handful of Spinach

* 3-4 Collard Green leaves (stem and all)

* 3-4 Kale Green Leaves (stem and all)

* 1-2 Apples (for a touch of sweetness)

* 1 Cucumber

* A little piece of Ginger in the event you feel like a slight "zing"

I also add whatever else I have close to for instance a zucchini or yellow squash, an additional type of greens along the lines of turnip greens, possibly a mustard green and so on.

I sometimes will use Dandelion which is fantastic for the Liver but indeed will make the juice on the bitter side. If using Dandelion makes sure you use two apples.

What I do not use in this beverage are carrots, any kind of radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, beets, burdock root, turnip root and so on.

Fill up a container inside the Vita Blend and add some water to the blend to dilute just adequate to ingest.

Put inside jars and have an individual per day for lunch! Needless to say, refrigerate!

Fruit Smoothie Recipe Using Pomegranates

Pomegranates are a rich source of antioxidants and can be enjoyed every day! Pomegranate juice which emerging science suggests might help stop plaque build up in the blood vessels, and slow prostrate cancer growth. It is also a food that is often included in weight loss diet programs. The fruit is also a great source of Potassium, Carbohydrates, and dietary fiber.

For all their pluses, Pomegranates are not an "easy" fruit to enjoy. Their skin is thick and you can spend quite a while peeling back the membrane to release the wonderfully delicious seeds and end up with pink hands and stained clothes as well in the process. But, fortunately, pomegranates can be included in our diets through really delicious fruit juices.

Smoothie Recipe

There is a wide variety of products in the store, but one that I like is very low in calories and the perfect base for a berry smoothie. This is low calorie Pomegranate Blueberry fruit juice. It is only 50 calories for an 8 ounce cup and that alone gives you vitamin A, C, calcium and iron without any fat or cholesterol. It is ideal because you are getting low calorie drinks rich with vitamins, which make the perfect base for refreshing fruit smoothie recipes that you can enjoy as breakfast, snack, or just about anytime to take off the "edge" of hunger.

This fruit smoothie recipe is so easy!

Combine in your blender:
