Starting a Smoothie Business

Is there room in your town for a Smoothie business? Juice bars are popping up in most towns and cities in the UK. Their offering is healthy, nutritious, easy to make, fun and very tasty!

Fruit & Vegetable juices definitely beat most other foods having lower calories, higher vitamin and mineral content and are low in fat. They have been recognised as preventing many types of illnesses caused by our fast food diet / low nutrition diet..

Smoothie

Every fruit and vegetable has its own unique mixture of vitamins and minerals which you can use to make up for many deficiencies in your diet.

Juice on the Move - they are great to be consumed on the move in this high pace world in which we live in. With a decent lid and a straw you are unlikely to make a mess either in your office or car. Who has the time to sit down, peel fruit, eat it and then wash your hands?

Added Supplements - You can offer supplements in your juice like added Vitamin C, Ginseng, Mint or even Garlic to make your offering even more tempting to the new vitamin popping generation. Why not go the full distance and serve organic fruit and vegetable juices?

Profit Margins are good and equipment costs are low. All you need are several juice machines, good quality fruit & vegetables, nice decor and the ability to work hard.

You need to have the right type of footfall though. Find a site that has a lot of younger people passing by. Ideal location would be in walking distance of a large trendy shopping mall and a big complex of offices.

Initial Expenses can be high for marketing your new business. You have to let people know you have arrived by sending out emails & doing leaflet drops. Advertise in the local newspaper and radio. Offer free juice to the first thousand customers and people are sure to know that you have arrived!

Try and come up with trendy names for your juices. It might be just pure orange juice to you but how about "Refreshing Orange Bang" for a name? Your apple juice could be called "The Green Devil" whilst carrot juice could possible be named "The Energiser".

Branding is Everything in this business. Choose trendy colours that immediately scream fruit. Use reds, greens & orange in your logo and shop front design. Your slogan should echo the healthy aspects of your products. Possible slogans could include "Crave the taste & Improve your Health" or how about "The Juice that Packs a Healthy Punch"?

Smoothies are not just fruit drinks; they can also be an alternative to a snack or light meal for people who are worried about their expanding waistlines. Add healthy, easy to make sandwiches to complement your nutritious range.

Making fruit juice is easy. The real challenge lies in picking the right site, establishing your brand, building goodwill (and reputation) and generating repeat business.

For the entrepreneur starting out in business, a juice bar can be a fun business with decent profit potential.

If the very thought of yummy movie- theatre popcorn suffuses you with a renewed zest for life, then you are sure to be gung-ho about the science project experiment that aims to determine which microwave popcorn pops the best. Interested? Forget kids that have an inscrutable affinity for this snack, even grown-ups would be upfront about conducting this experiment within the precincts of their home.

Light, butter, home style or kettle, they all manage to envelope us in euphoria, with consummate ease. And of course, financially astute customers never let go of an opportunity to get the best deal.

Blenders

The Itch To Win Brownie Points

It's hard to torpedo the enthusiasm and never-say-die spirit of leading popcorn manufacturers when it comes to winning the plaudits of an entire generation of popcorn lovers. In fact, such is the hypnotic power of advertising that they manage to seize customers by an irresistible impulse to bite into their cauldron of delectable varieties.

The following experiment seeks to challenge the insularity of the public with respect to the best brands. Remember, the most widely used brands do not always give consistent results.

The Line-Up Includes...

Here's what you'll need to start your experiment with:

  • A bag each of Acme, Best Brand, Xtreme and Top-Dog microwave popcorn.
  • A 500 watt microwave oven
  • A large plastic bowl
  • One small plastic bowl

Let's Get Started

Once all the materials are in place, it's time to set the ball rolling. Here's how:

  • Remove the bag of the first brand out of its packaging.
  • Place the bag in the microwave and cook the same for a maximum of three minutes on high power. Make sure you read the instructions on the bag carefully.
  • Wait for 30 seconds, thus allowing all the steam to escape. Open the bag carefully.
  • Empty the contents into a large bowl.
  • Separate all the unpopped kernels from the popped popcorn in a smaller bowl.
  • Count the number of unpopped kernels and record your findings on a sheet. Now repeat the same process for all the remaining brands.

Equipment Used in the Kitchen

Kitchen Equipment

Today we have all kinds of equipment and gadgets to make life easier in the kitchen. Kitchen tools are exclusive items used in the kitchen; they must be reliable and efficient.

Blenders

Domestic kitchens carry many of the same gadgets that professional kitchens do but on a smaller scale. You will find most small gadgets at home, like the mixers and blenders, electric can opener, and electric carving knives, measuring cups, and pizza cutters more or less everything with the exception of walk-in freezers and walk-in chillers. There should be a display cabinet so that you can display the freshness of the foods.

The health inspector inspects the temperature controls (maintain hot foods hot and cold foods cold). The vehicle transporting food has to be cleaned on a daily basis.

Broilers, cheese cutters, griddle hotplates, ovens, cooking roasters, and microwaves are all equipment used in the kitchen... No restaurant can function without them. All these articles come in different sizes and capabilities. Stocking a kitchen with vast gadgets and utensils can really be a headache.

There are few ways to begin collecting the equipment, utensils and appliances you need. One way is to write a list and start checking them off as you purchase. A second method is trial and error method. As you begin cooking you will realize what your kitchen is missing. you may also go to a store that sell such items and asked for advice.

You can buy the equipment from a garage sale, however, new is better. Shop for quality over quantity. Make sure you read and ask questions before you buy. A commercial kitchen business relies on practical products. Space saving, energy efficiency and convenience are some of the factors when deciding on the products to choose for your kitchen.

Petroleum gas, large steam kettles, fridges with stainless steel doors and stainless steel tables, braising pans, deep fat fryers and a machine that slices cheese are used in professional kitchen.

Cutting boards come in plastic and different colours so make sure your staffs knows what colour goes with raw or cooked food.

These are some of the utensils used in the kitchen.

The Health Benefits of Lobster

High in protein and low in fat, lobster is a very beneficial meat. Comparable to a steak, lobster has less than thirty grams of protein in a five ounce portion. Lobster also has less fat compared to steak. It is perfect for a no or low carbohydrate diet as well. Under the Weight Watcher's system lobster has just four points.   Not only is lobster low in fat, it is lower in cholesterol than skinless chicken breast. Lobster has seventy-two milligrams compared to chicken's eighty-five milligrams.

In addition to having a high protein and low fat composition, lobster meat has ten to twenty percent of the USDA's daily recommended value of potassium, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, copper, and vitamin B12.  Like many other types of seafood, lobster also contains a high constitution of Omega 3 fatty acid which is beneficial for both your heart and your brain. Selenium aids the immune system and thyroid gland and may also help prevent heart disease. Bone and tissue diseases can be avoided by diets high in copper. The vitamin B12 is essential for healthy nerve and red blood cells. Phosphorus contributes to proper kidney functioning and lessens arthritis pain. Increased brain activity, a boosted immune system, and a healthier reproduction system are all benefits from consuming zinc. Finally potassium is credited with aiding your heart's functions. The benefits of Omega 3 fatty acid range from reducing your risk of heart attack to lowering your blood pressure.

Smoothies

Perfect for people on a diet and those simply trying to have a healthier lifestyle, lobster is a far superior choice to the usual steak. Eating lobster clearly provides you a low fat, comprehensive range of nutritional value while at the same time giving you great flavor and taste. With all the spectacular health benefits to eating lobster, it really is the coup de grace for special occasion meals.

Wheatgrass Juice Recipe - How to Make Wheatgrass Taste Good!

Everybody knows that wheatgrass juice has amazing health benefits, but its taste leaves a lot to be desired. In this article I will make a tasty wheatgrass juice recipe that makes drinking wheatgrass a treat!

I have a confession to make, even though I've been a self described health nut for many years, I can't stand the taste! I always make a funny face after drinking it and feel slightly nauseated. However, I still drink it because its a great source of chlorophyll and essential nutrients. Chlorophyll helps purify the liver, neutralize toxins in the body, and it builds the blood's oxygen carrying potential. It also contains beta-carotene, B-complex, C, E, and vitamin K. Wheatgrass is great for people who are wanting to detox and cleanse their bodies or lose weight. Unfortunately all these health benefits will go to waste if you aren't able to stand the taste!

Juicer

To make the wheatgrass palatable it is recommened that you try diluting it with different types of fresh fruit and vegetable juice. Some of the best juices to mix with the wheatgrass with juice are: apple, orange, and cucumber or a combination of the three. You can also dilute the juice with Kombucha or a blend of apple juice and a fermented beverage called Rejuvelac. When you mix wheatgrass with other juices, a good rule of thumb is to not mix more than 1 ounce with 16 ounces of another type of juice.

It is easy to mix your shot of wheatgrass at your favorite local juice bar. Just ask for at least 16 ounces of fresh fruit or vegetables juice. For example, you could ask for a celery, apple, lemon, ginger juice and then add your 1 ounce shot of wheatgrass juice.

Here is one of my favorite wheatgrass juice recipes of all time that you can make at home:

Wheatgrass Cooler

1 large cucumber or 2 medium cucumbers

1 peeled orange

1 apple

small handful fresh basil leaves

1 inch knob ginger

3 fistfuls of wheatgrass or desired amount

Juice all ingredients through the Omega Vert Juicer or another single auger style juicer. Enjoy!

It's best to drink juice on an empty stomach.

The Origin of Tiramisu

Tiramisu is one of the most popular Italian desserts. But just where did this delicious confection come from? There are many different possibilities if you go investigating Italian cookbooks and history.

Giuseppe Maffioli

\"Smoothie Recipes\"

One of the first mentions of anything similar to tiramisu comes from the famous epicure Giuseppe Maffioli. In his book published in 1968, The Venetian Glutton (known in Italian as Il Ghiottone Veneto), he talks about Zabaglione custard. This custard was prepared with sweet wine from Cyprus, and earned its name from Zabaja. It was first made in the Illiria region, which was once a Venetian territory.

In his book Maffioli discusses a wedding. At the end of the ceremonies, the friends of the groom, still single themselves; give the newlyweds a large bottle of zabajon. The purpose of the gift was so that the two of them would enjoy their honeymoon that much more. According to the book, sometimes whipped cream was added and the custard was severed very cold. Also included were baicoli, a popular thin cookie that also originated in Venice. If you consider the tiramisu that is served today, these ingredients are very similar, hinting at its origins. Tiramisu means "pull me up" which is an apt description of the properties of Zabaglione custard.

Giovanni Capnist

One of the oldest recipes for tiramisu can be found in the book written by Giovanni Capnist, The Desserts of Veneto (known as I Dolci del Veneto in Italian). It was originally published in 1983 and includes one of the classic tiramisu recipes. It notes that the recipe comes from the town of Treviso and was started in restaurants instead of being passed from one family to another like other recipes.

Treviso

This means that looking at the town of Treviso will give you a better idea of where tiramisu was invented. Fernando and Tina Raris wrote a book devoted to the cuisine of the town, known as "La Marca Gastronomica." According to the book, a restaurant known as Le Beccherie was responsible for the invention of tiramisu. The dessert became extremely popular, and soon Italian restaurants around the world started to copy the recipe and the name. If you stop at Le Beccherie today you can still enjoy the classical tiramisu recipe. It features ladyfingers soaked in strong espresso coffee accompanied by mascarpone and zabaglione cream and topped in bitter cocoa powder.

Tiramisu variations

Today's tiramisu comes in numerous variations. While the original is still one of the most popular, many people have come up with different variations. There are plenty of lower carb and lower fat versions. Versions that swap out the lady fingers for sponge cake or even pound cake, and other versions that include almonds, chocolate, and other sweets. And then there are variations that seem to have nothing to do with the original recipe, such as tiramisus that include fruit, such as blueberries, raspberries, or even lemon. There are even some versions out there that will substitute the coffee or leave it out entirely if you do not enjoy the taste of espresso.

Gluten Free Recipes For Kids

Having kids is not an easy job. Daily tasks can sometimes seem so overwhelming. Having five kids of my own, I can completely relate with the day to day frustrations. Fortunately, I do not have any teenagers, yet. With five kids, meal time can be quite chaotic. But how much harder is it, when you must have gluten free recipes for kids as well?

Let's face it. American kids live off of pizza, hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and the list of junk goes on and on. All of this garbage food is making obesity in children a norm. Not only that, but it is all full of gluten. With children that are on a gluten-free diet, it makes it very challenging to cook for them. Despite these challenges, there are actually a lot of options out there that are great gluten-free recipes for kids.

Smoothie

Let's begin with fruit as a snack. Fruit is naturally sweet and vitamin packed, unlike all of the foods listed above. What about a smoothie? Smoothies are extremely tasty, with the natural fruit sugar, and are very filling. Making that smoothie dairy-free, gluten-free, and all natural ensures that all food allergies are addressed and health is taken into consideration. Smoothies are very easy to make and will leave kids asking for more. When I make smoothies, it seems there is never enough to go around.

What ingredients make a great smoothie? The ingredients all depend on your kids' personal preference. We love to combine peaches, strawberries, blackberries, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Some days, I am too lazy to juice oranges and will just exchange coconut milk for the juice. Other days, I do not want to add blackberries. And just recently, I decided to use coconut milk, a very small portion of a banana, and strawberries together. You can't go wrong with smoothies. All you need is some fruit, a blender, and an ability to experiment!

For lunch, a chicken nugget recipe does not need to be thrown out the window. Just use common sense and make them all natural. They are easy to make and taste great. All you need is cubed chicken, eggs, a gluten-free flour blend, paprika, and pepper. Dip the chicken in the eggs and the flour. Place them on a pan and sprinkle paprika and pepper. They take a very short time to bake. Once they are done, the kids are scrambling to the table to get as many as possible.

For dinner, spaghetti is one of the many gluten-free recipes for kids. When making spaghetti, simply buy gluten-free pasta. I have a favorite brand that I use all of the time, which has a good flavor and texture. Then, I make my own homemade spaghetti sauce. All I use is tomato puree, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Throw that in with some hamburger, and dinner is served.

I have a harder time making dessert. I have some gluten-free dessert recipes that are good, but I struggle with getting the texture of the dessert just right (it can be a little dry). I have figured out how to make a good gluten-free, dairy-free, banana cream pie filling and pie crust. The texture is good and the flavor leaves you craving more. What kid wouldn't go for a great dessert recipe? All of the ingredients that are needed are coconut milk, eggs, evaporated cane juice crystals, a gluten-free flour blend, vanilla, and a natural buttery spread. It is easy to make this pie filling.

So, don't give up on finding great gluten-free recipes for kids. It is actually easier than it seems at first. It is a blessing to give up gluten. Just think no more greasy pizza, nitrate filled hot dogs with buns, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and macaroni and cheese. Throw out the preservatives and cook all natural foods that your kids will come back to over and over again. When they are parents, they will be thankful that you took the time to take care of them and fed them all natural gluten-free foods.

Food to Serve at Sock Hop Parties This Summer

Start your sock hop off right by providing the best food! You can even make the meals even more special by having people dress up in hip hop attire, such as 50's poodle skirts and greaser outfits. There are plenty of options for you to choose from to have the ultimate 1950s sock hop meal.

You could try to keep the food similar to items that were eaten during the 1950s. One consideration is to parody a soda shop. Serve a hamburger with a basket of fries, or a hot dog and a basket of onion rings. Top it off with old fashioned soda.

Blenders

For dessert you could serve shakes and malts. These can be easy to make yourself with the help of a few blenders. You could also make a float easily by pouring some root beer over vanilla ice cream.

If floats and shakes do not hit the spot offer ice cream sundaes. Ice creams sundaes are easy to make, and are delicious. Put out toppings for guests to top their sundaes off the way they like.

If you are hosting a sock hop for a large crowd, a buffet is your best bet. Keep the menu to finger foods. Some ideas: Mini pizzas, giant deli sandwiches, chicken wings, chicken strips, meatballs, veggies and dip. If you are serving items that require dips, such as chicken strips, be sure the offer a few different sauces for guests to try such as ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, etc.

You can prepare some food ahead of time and keep them heated with a warming tray. This could be a good idea so you do not have to worry about preparing everything on the spot. If you do not have a warming tray you could also keep food warm by setting the oven to its lowest setting, or lower than 200 degrees.

You should also have some food out that people can munch on while mix and mingling. Some good snack ideas are pretzels, cheese, nuts, chips, popcorn or even candy. Be sure to have a few dips around for chips to make it more fun to eat.

If you are serving food, have the servers dress up in 50's poodle skirts or 50's attire. 50's Poodle skirts are the most recognizable 50s costume, though there are other options available to servers as well. For a fun touch, have server's dressed up in 50's poodle skirts or 50's outfits use roller skates when taking care of meals.

3 Foods For a Good Complexion - Get Beautiful Fresh Skin

Are you wondering what you should eat a lot of to improve the appearance of your facial skin? Some foods are better for the skin than others, especially the ones that are dense in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Some foods for good complexion are delicious just by themselves while others may be easiest to get down in a smoothie.

These foods for good complexion will help you make your skin both beautiful and youthful, because when your skin has all the nutrients it needs the rejuvenation process will be facilitated.

Smoothie

1. Dark Leafy Greens

Dark green leafed vegetables like spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, collard greens and swiss chard are rich in minerals and vitamins. Some people don't really like their greens, and that is when blends and smoothies come in handy. Just put fruit like bananas, avocado and peaches in your blender together with some greens, and you won't even notice them.

2. All Kinds of Berries

Berries are really rich in antioxidants, as well as vitamins. Antioxidants are great because they reduce the free radicals in your body (which cause aging) and make you look and feel great. Examples of delicious berries are raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and mulberries. But do eat them unheated to get the most antioxidants and vitamins.

3. Wakame Kelp

Wakame sea kelp comes from the Japanese sea and is eaten both fresh and dried by the Japanese people. It is their secret to youthful, fair and smooth skin, and is best enjoyed in wraps and salads.

Another way to get the benefits from Wakame, is by using the extract Phytessence Wakame on your skin. Not only the extract of course, it should be added to a natural skin cream.

It has been proven in scientific studies that Phytessence Wakame improves skin elasticity and skin tone. It is also moisturizing and helps to heal dry and irritated skin.

With all that said, I firmly believe that the most important thing is to eat foods for good complexion and then to use an age defensive skin cream. It is never too soon to start using a really good anti-aging face cream, the sooner the better because it will prevent the first signs of aging.

The largest organ in the body, our skin is the first defense against germs and the environment. One of the best ways to slow the aging of skin is to ensure the skin is well hydrated by consuming fresh juice and plenty of water each day.

Carrots are regarded as the 'herbal healer' of skin diseases as they promote the repair of skin tissue. Carrot juice is a valuable source of Vitamin A, which is a major vitamin for skin health. Carrots are rich in antioxidants, including phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals, which protect, nourish and moisturize the skin. Nutrition received from carrots helps to reduce photosensitivity to promote skin renewal and protect the skin from sun damage.

Carrot juice acts as an anti-inflammatory and revitalizes and tones the skin. Cosmetically, carrots are used to treat dermatitis, eczema, rashes and wrinkles caused by free radicals. Carrot juice is also used to assist in the healing of cuts and abrasions. Complexion problems due mainly to toxic overload in the body and an acidic condition in the blood can be stabilized through consumption of carrot juice. Potassium in the carrots helps to neutralize the excess acid and the vitamin A assists the liver in flushing toxins from the body.

A recent study in the Netherlands found a significant link between skin condition and the level of vitamin A in the blood. Natural vitamin A in the form of Beta Carotene is abundant in fresh carrot juice thereby negating the need for vitamin A supplements.

Vitamin A deficiencies in the body include: premature wrinkling, skin impurities, acne, dry, scaly and rough skin, especially on the arms and legs. Carrot juice applied daily is great for uneven skin tones due to blemishes and pigmentation. Extract juice from carrots and pineapple using a juicer: mix pineapple juice and carrot juice together, apply it on the face and wash off after 15 minutes. Use this daily to achieve clear and even toned skin.

Drink carrot juice in small doses, as the body is unable to assimilate more than 8oz of carrot juice at a time. Large consumptions of carrot juice daily over a period of weeks may result in a yellow tinge to the skin. At best it will give a healthy glow to your tan. The skin discoloration is completely harmless and occurs primarily on the hands and feet. Either your body is unable to process carotene properly or your liver is toxic. Either way for healthy nutrition it is important not to concentrate on only one juice source.

A healthy skin is achieved internally through a nutritious diet incorporating fresh vegetable juice. Carrot juice is effective in maintaining and enhancing a soft, smooth disease free skin.
