Health Benefits of Eating a Raw Food Diet

Raw foods are very good for human health and either making raw foods a larger part of your diet or switching to an entirely raw food diet can provide a number of benefits. A raw food diet consists entirely of uncooked preferably organically grown plant based foods; largely fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts and juices - dried fruits and vegetables may also be added to these diets.

Raw food diets are almost entirely vegan, with many of the health benefits of these diets being due to the large quantities of dietary fiber and nutrients; components which are often lost when cooking or processing food. Raw foods are generally lower calorie and are easily digested, since raw foods contain all of the enzymes which aid in their digestion - these are destroyed by cooking fruits and vegetables.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Eating A Raw Food Diet?

There are very little or no saturated fats or sodium and these diets provide the magnesium, folic acid and dietary fiber as well as other nutrients which the human body needs for good health. These diets are also detoxifying, helping the body to flush out toxins. What's On The Menu In A Raw Food Diet? Any fresh, uncooked vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts and other foods may be eaten as well as sprouted beans and grains. Some especially healthy choices include:

Sprouted brown rice: this food helps slow the absorption of glucose and regulates the metabolism

Cabbage: All cruciferous vegetables are high in fiber and support a variety of crucial systems in the body
Carrots: These vegetables are rich in vitamin A and fiber and are great for the circulatory system and vision
Fennel: A good source of Manganese and Zinc, this vegetable is great fresh or juiced; and it has natural anti inflammatory properties which make it especially helpful for people suffering from arthritis.

If you're interested in getting the nutrients which sprouted seeds, legumes and grains offer, you may want to use a sprouter like the Easy Green automatic sprouter. Sprouts are great sources of protein, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and important micronutrients. You can eat sprouts as they are, in salads, soups and other dishes. You can even juice sprouts along with other fruits and vegetables with a high quality juicer like the Kempo Greenpower.

Sprouted seeds, beans and grains contain a wealth of nutrients, being excellent sources of vitamins A, E and the B vitamins as well as essential fatty acids, lecithin and protein. You can also get nutrition from beans, grains and nuts by making them into non-dairy beverage with a soy milk maker like SoyQuick. You can also eat tofu or even make your own.

By eating an entirely raw food diet or at least making 75% or more of your diet uncooked, unprocessed foods, you'll have access to all of the nutritional value of your food. You can warm your food a little; but make sure to keep the temperature under 116 degrees Fahrenheit in order to keep their enzymes and nutrients intact.

Before You Make The Switch

You should always speak with your physician before making any big changes in your diet. If you have any sort of medical condition especially anemia or if you happen to be pregnant, get your doctor's opinion first. You should also ask your doctor about raw food diets if you plan to switch your children to this sort of diet.

One thing to be aware of is that since a raw food diet tends to detoxify the body, you may experience mild reactions at first as your body flushes out stored toxins. You may experience headaches and nausea, though these should be mild and short lived. It's a good idea to prepare at least a week in advance by limiting your intake of sugar, caffeine and meat before you start a new raw food diet.

A raw food diet can make a dramatic difference to your health as long as you're willing to put in the necessary time and effort. You will have to prepare more of your own meals than you may be used to, but there are plenty of products out there which are designed to assist you in making the transition an easier one.

Carrot Juice for Skin Health

Your skin is a reflection of your underlying health. Good nutrition including fresh vegetable juice such as carrots can play a role in creating better-looking skin. Carrot Juice is used for skin health to provide curative and preventative properties for healthy glowing skin. The largest organ in the body, our skin is the first defense against germs and the environment. One of the best ways to slow the aging of skin is to ensure the skin is well hydrated by consuming fresh juice and plenty of water each day.

Carrots are regarded as the 'herbal healer' of skin diseases as they promote the repair of skin tissue. Carrot juice is a valuable source of Vitamin A, which is a major vitamin for skin health. Carrots are rich in antioxidants, including phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals, which protect, nourish and moisturize the skin. Nutrition received from carrots helps to reduce photosensitivity to promote skin renewal and protect the skin from sun damage.

Juicer

Carrot juice acts as an anti-inflammatory and revitalizes and tones the skin. Cosmetically, carrots are used to treat dermatitis, eczema, rashes and wrinkles caused by free radicals. Carrot juice is also used to assist in the healing of cuts and abrasions. Complexion problems due mainly to toxic overload in the body and an acidic condition in the blood can be stabilized through consumption of carrot juice. Potassium in the carrots helps to neutralize the excess acid and the vitamin A assists the liver in flushing toxins from the body.

A recent study in the Netherlands found a significant link between skin condition and the level of vitamin A in the blood. Natural vitamin A in the form of Beta Carotene is abundant in fresh carrot juice thereby negating the need for vitamin A supplements.

Vitamin A deficiencies in the body include: premature wrinkling, skin impurities, acne, dry, scaly and rough skin, especially on the arms and legs. Carrot juice applied daily is great for uneven skin tones due to blemishes and pigmentation. Extract juice from carrots and pineapple using a juicer: mix pineapple juice and carrot juice together, apply it on the face and wash off after 15 minutes. Use this daily to achieve clear and even toned skin.

Drink carrot juice in small doses, as the body is unable to assimilate more than 8oz of carrot juice at a time. Large consumptions of carrot juice daily over a period of weeks may result in a yellow tinge to the skin. At best it will give a healthy glow to your tan. The skin discoloration is completely harmless and occurs primarily on the hands and feet. Either your body is unable to process carotene properly or your liver is toxic. Either way for healthy nutrition it is important not to concentrate on only one juice source.

A healthy skin is achieved internally through a nutritious diet incorporating fresh vegetable juice. Carrot juice is effective in maintaining and enhancing a soft, smooth disease free skin. An invigorating and refreshing juice, start drinking carrot juice today and tell me if you see a difference in your skin

Lemon Juice Health Benefits

Lemonade is known to have been used as a refreshing drink since the time of the Moguls. Modem investigations have tended to support this use, the essential oil being very good for cooling the body. This use can be extended to the employment of lemon juice with water and sugar as the best drink to take when you have a fever

When the temperature of the body is high, whether from the effects of the sun or from the results of illness, it is necessary to take regular drinks in order to prevent dehydration. Sugar is not normally a desirable part of a healthy diet, nevertheless it has its part to play with lemon, and although there is no doubt that the addition of honey if available is very much to be preferred.

Smoothies

The high vitamin C content of the lemon has been used for hundreds of years to ward off scurvy among sailors and travelers. There is little sodium, so the fruit is good as a flavoring for those on a low salt diet.

Because in some countries the producers of lemons extend their keeping properties and improve appearance by coating them with the chemical diphenyl and waxing the fruits, it is a wise precaution to wash the lemon with a little unscented soap and then rinse thoroughly before converting the whole fruit to juice.

The pulp left from the juicing is excellent for the skin and can also soothe the bites and stings of insects. If you add equal parts of toilet water and of glycerin to the residue the mixture can be made to keep the hands smooth.

Doctors Morel and Rochaix demonstrated that the extract of lemon when vaporized will neutralize the bacteria of meningococcus, typhoid, pneumococcus and staphylococcus in from 15 to 180 minutes.

A gastronomically inclined Frenchman, Charles Richet, is said by Dr Valnet to have discovered that the lemon juice added to raw oysters before eating them destroys 92% of the bacteria present within 15 minutes. A good reason to wait before you eat!

This information is relevant to the idea that lemon juice is a most important therapy to be used in all cases of infection of the respiratory tract and as a general tonic.

Provided that the juice is diluted with water, there is no danger in taking any reasonable quantity of lemon juice. Be sure to choose firm, clear colored lemons that have not begun to wither. The first signs of ageing can be spotted where the stem was once attached to the fruit.

Super Health Secrets - 3 Quick Super Health Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are probably the easiest way to make your diet much healthier with virtually no effort all. Just throw some great ingredients in the blender and whiz them up for a quick and tasty meal. Read on and I'll show you some little smoothie tricks and recipes for making the most of them.

One of the best ways to use smoothies is to make drinks with nutritious leafy greens. Far more fun than eating big salads, this is a fast, easy, tasty way to get a nice bump in hydration as well as vitamin and mineral rich drink. This makes these recipes excellent for breakfast when you're most dehydrated first thing in the morning.

Smoothie Recipe

Try these for starters.

Recipe One: Banana and Spinach

This one's super easy. Just peel a couple of ripe bananas and throw them in the blender. Fill the rest with spinach and add a cup or two of water, depending on how thick you'd like it.

This makes about a pint of tasty bright green smoothie. The sweetness of the banana is cut by the mild bitterness of the spinach giving a smooth, creamy flavoured drink.

Get already washed baby spinach - it's a little sweeter tasting and saves you the hassle of washing every leaf yourself. Frozen spinach doesn't work well so I wouldn't recommend trying it! Feel free to throw in some ice if you'd like a cold shake.

Recipe Two: Green Grapefruit

Feeling really lazy? Roughly peel and throw a couple of red grapefruits in the blender, pulp them, add a tablespoon or two of your favourite green superfood, like crystal mana (a high end algae), spirulina or chlorella or even a multi-green product. Add a couple of ice cubes and blend.  You'll need a fairly powerful blender to smoothly mix citrus fruits.

Recipe Three: Kale & Pineapple

Kale has even more going for it that spinach and blends great with the tart sweetness of the pineapple. Simply throw a cup of pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen), with a banana (again, fresh of frozen to suit), a couple of big handfuls of kale and a few freshly picked mint leaves.

As with all these smoothie recipes you can add more or less water if you'd like a longer drink or a thicker smoothie and can use fresh of frozen fruit ingredients if you'd like more of a frosty shake. Enjoy!

Health Benefits Of Basil

Basil is a popular herb in Italian cooking, particularly in pesto. This fragrant and flavorful herb, a relative of peppermint, is an excellent, nutritious addition to your pasta sauce, soup, or salad.

An array of flavonoids exist in basil, which help to protect cells and chromosomes from damage. Studies have shown that two of these flavonoids in particular, orientin and vicenin, are useful in protecting cell structures and chromosomes from damage by radiation and oxygen.

Smoothie Recipe

Essential oil of basil has been shown to inhibit the growth of several types of bacteria, many of which have become resistant to antibiotics. This essential oil has been found to inhibit growth of the widespread staphylococcus, enterococcus, pseudomonas, and e. coli bacteria, among others. Adding basil to your vinaigrette will both enhance the flavor, and ensure that the fresh salad greens are safe to eat.

Eugenol, which is found in essential oil of basil, provides an anti-inflammatory effect, by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase. Aspirin and Ibuprofen work by blocking this same enzyme. So, basil can have healing benefits, and provide relief from the symptoms of inflammatory problems, like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel conditions.

Basil is also a good source of vitamin A, which helps to prevent damage to the cells by free radicals. Vitamin A also prevents free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol in the blood stream, preventing the cholesterol from building up in the blood vessels.

Magnesium is also present in basil. This essential mineral helps the heart and blood vessels to relax, improving blood flow. Other nutrients found in basil include iron, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C.

The fresh, spicy flavor and scent of basil will wake up any boring salad or soup. Use fresh basil whole, or shredded to add a burst of flavor to your dinner. If you are using fresh basil in a cooked dish, add it towards the end of cooking, so that the volatile oils will not be dissipated by the heat.

Insalata Caprese is a simple salad, utilizing tomatoes, fresh mozzerella cheese, basil, and olive oil.

1/2 pound, fresh mozzerella, sliced 1/4 inch thick.

2 large tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick.

1 cup fresh basil leaves.

salt and pepper

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil.

On a serving plate, arrange the mozzerella and tomato around the edge, alternating mozzerella and tomato slices.

Tear up the basil leaves, and sprinkle them on top of the tomatoes and mozerella cheese.

Season with a bit of salt and pepper.

Just before serving, drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the salad.

Green Smoothie Recipe For Better Health

If you don't own a Vita Mix, may I suggest you invest in one. There are certainly a million recipes where the Vita Blend is applied and it is worth every penny. Often times your local Costco will have the Vita Mix Organization come in to do three days of demonstrations. Check with Costco online for facts. The unit can also be purchased directly from the Vita Blend Business itself. Anyway, if you don't have one, a regular blender will just have to do.

The following drink can be a powerful green recipe that keeps all from the fiber intact, which makes the recipe itself even healthier. I make enough for 3 days and every day I consume a quart. No matter what anybody may say, the drink is as fresh and tasty on day 3 as it's on day 1.

Smoothie Recipe

Green Smoothies can often be associated with the Liver. They are often used as a food that supports and helps keep the liver healthy.

I use only organic vegetables. Nevertheless, if organic is not accessible, then I use whatever other greens I may have. Of all vegetables, celery is the only one that actually will be really helpful to be organic. Be creative, play using the beverage, change it around and make it your own.

* Two stalks of celery

* A handful of parsley

* A handful of cilantro

* A handful of Spinach

* 3-4 Collard Green leaves (stem and all)

* 3-4 Kale Green Leaves (stem and all)

* 1-2 Apples (for a touch of sweetness)

* 1 Cucumber

* A little piece of Ginger in the event you feel like a slight "zing"

I also add whatever else I have close to for instance a zucchini or yellow squash, an additional type of greens along the lines of turnip greens, possibly a mustard green and so on.

I sometimes will use Dandelion which is fantastic for the Liver but indeed will make the juice on the bitter side. If using Dandelion makes sure you use two apples.

What I do not use in this beverage are carrots, any kind of radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, beets, burdock root, turnip root and so on.

Fill up a container inside the Vita Blend and add some water to the blend to dilute just adequate to ingest.

Put inside jars and have an individual per day for lunch! Needless to say, refrigerate!
