Best Fresh Salsa Recipe

Here is the best salsa recipe I have ever made.

My family does not even like regular jar or store bought salsa anymore. I use to make salsa and cook the ingredients on the stove but once was in a hurry and just used everything straight from the garden, after a little washing. The result was a flavor burst in my mouth with all the wonderful flavors that were not toned down by cooking them away.

Smoothie Recipe

Hope you enjoy and give me your comments.

8 tomatoes

3 green peppers

4 jalapeno peppers (you can remove some or add some depending on your taste)

1 small onion

Garlic cloves or minced garlic

salt

Olive Oil

Parsley

Lemon or lime juice

Cut off the tops of the green peppers and remove seeds. Cut off the tops of the jalapenos but do not remove seeds. Cut the outer skin off the onion and cut in four sections.

Place these items in a food processor and run until everything is small. I usually do not leave big chunks of the jalapeno as small chopped bits blend better and give flavor throughout the salsa.

Drop in 1 teaspoon on minced garlic. You can use the stuff out of the jar from the store or put in 2 whole cloves.

Wash the tomatoes and cut off the tops and cut them in half our fourths and put them in the food processor on top of the already chopped up peppers and onions.

Process these until the tomatoes are well chopped. Open the food process and remove the container and put a strainer in your sink and pour the mixture from the processor into the strainer and let strain all the excess liquid from the tomatoes. I usually use my well washed hand in their to stir up the salsa and speed up the process but you can use a big spoon. When Most of the excess liquid is gone dump the strainer mixture into a bowl or container.

Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 3 to 4 tablespoons lemon or lime juice. I prefer lime juice but once ran out and used lemon juice and it worked just as well. I use the bottled juice but it you have fresh it would be even better. Add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.

Stir everything together with a spoon and quickly get out your chips and get some because as soon as your family knows you have homemade salsa made it will not be around for very long.

Gout Recipes

A person's diet changes dramatically when he is diagnosed with gout. Red meat, organ meat, shellfish, beans, and legumes are not allowed. The use of salt and oil should be limited. Alcohol intake is discouraged. So what else is there to eat and drink, you may ask. The answer is a lot. It is all just a matter of preparing the food you are allowed to eat into a fantastic and filling meal. Let this article guide you to the food that you can eat and the delicious ways to prepare them.

Gout-friendly ingredients

Smoothie Recipe

There are still many foods that a person who has gout can enjoy. Fruits like watermelons, oranges, and grapefruit and foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates like brown rice and whole wheat bread should make up 40 percent of a gout sufferer's diet. Cherries in particular have been said to be very beneficial in lowering uric acid levels in the blood. Aside from red meat, fish, lean meat such as chicken breast, and soy products are also great sources of protein. Vegetable oil instead of animal fat should be used.

Since salt should be used sparingly, other food flavorings should be used. Replace salt with herbs and spices like basil, marjoram, and oregano. Use garlic in particular because it is also known to lower uric acid levels in the blood.

Food preparation

Instead of frying, bake or grill fish and lean meat. Marinate marlin or swordfish with crushed garlic, pepper, and other spices, and grill it over fire. Serve this with brown rice and grilled vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, corn and squash on the side.

For drinks, water is best but it will not hurt to try something different once in a while. For a refreshing drink, make a smoothie out of bananas, apples, watermelon, and silken tofu. Silken tofu is a great additive to smoothies. To sweeten, add a little honey or maple syrup. These are invert sugars and not simple sugars so they are just fine.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

This recipe was a favorite of my sister and I. We loved it when my mom would make these. When we were old enough to cook, the house always smelled like chocolate macaroons. I think we made this recipe about a couple of times a week. They are very easy to make and super yummy to eat! Another thing I like about this recipe is that you don't use a lot of dishes, so clean-up is a breeze as well. These cookies are great if you are in a pinch and need to make something delicious in a hurry. Another great thing is the ingredient list is very short and most things I'm sure you will be able to find in your very own kitchen.

I hope you enjoy making these macaroons as much as I know you will enjoy eating them.

Smoothie Recipe

What you need to make the macaroons:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

6 tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup fine shredded coconut

3 cups oatmeal

1-2 cookie sheets waxed paper

1. Combine the first four ingredients together in a large pot and bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

2. Take pot off of stove and add the coconut and oatmeal. Mix until everything is coated.

3. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet by heaping tablespoon-fulls. To have these cookies ready quickly, cool in refrigerator, or leave and let cool to room temp.

Enjoy!

Note: You may need to double batch these cookies as they will disappear fast!!!!

Dessert for Diabetics - How To Make Good Low Carb Desserts

If you are diabetic, you may think that dessert is out of the question. But desert for diabetics exist. As you know, diabetics must limit their intake of sweet, but that does not mean you have to eliminate all sugar. You just need to make sure that you only eat sweet foods in moderation.

Eating high carbohydrate foods such as dessert should be done in the same meal protein and fiber to help balance your blood sugar. You also need to have just a small portion of sugar laden foods. Make sure that you limit the number of servings of dessert available if you are prone to eating too much sugar.

Smoothie Recipe

Excellent desserts can be made from fruit. Basing your dessert recipes on fresh fruits is an excellent way to create a lower carbohydrate dessert that is still delicious in addition to being more nutritious than most other desserts available. Fruits are naturally sweet and the fiber in fruit helps to keep your blood sugar stable. Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are delicious when topped with some low sugar whipped topping.

A substitute for pie can be some cooked fruit with a crumb topping. An excellent low-carb crumb topping can be made from crushed nuts. If you want more of a pastry feel, you can use low-carb Graham crackers. A high-fiber cereal can also be a good substitute for a crumb topping.

A smoothie is a great substitute for ice cream when it is made from whole fruit and ice cubes. Any fruit you like will work in a smoothie. You can also add milk for a better ice cream like feel. You can even sneak some vegetables into your smoothie by adding a carrot or even a few spinach leaves. You may want a high powered blender so that everything is as smooth as possible, but I can assure you from personal experience that a fruit and vegetable smoothie with plenty of ice is just as good as ice cream and much better for you.

An idea if you are diabetic and love chocolate, is to combine a small amount of sugar with cocoa powder and mix it with a banana for a substitute for chocolate pudding or chocolate mousse. The banana is more nutritious than any pudding you'll find, and also has fiber.

Dessert diabetics can be a challenge, but with some creativity you can adapt many regular desserts into diabetic friendly versions and be just as happy with the results.

Top Tips on How to Ripen Bananas Quickly!

There are several questions that arise in the mind of people about bananas, one of which is how to ripen bananas fast. If your bananas are not as ripe as you would like them to be, then here read on about tip on how to ripen bananas quickly.

Like many other fruits, bananas are produced in mature conditions, but still they are not ripe. If you leave a banana on a banana tree to try to ripen it, it may take several few days more to ripen. However, if you are a producer of bananas, this may cause trouble when you try to transport them for sale. For this reason, the fruit is harvested when it is still green in color.

Smoothie Recipe

Here are a few known tips on how to ripen bananas fast:

You can place the bananas in a paper bag with an apple in it. Ethylene gas is emitted from the apple which gets trapped in the bag. With the help of that gas, the bundle of bananas will get ripened fast. Feel free to eat them as you wish, otherwise keep them in a refrigerator so that the ripening will slow down.

Now that you know the easiest and fastest way on how to ripen bananas, let's try it out:

The important primary ingredients that you will need are the container (paper bag), an apple and of course, the bundle of bananas.

1) Put the banana and the apple in the paper bag and wait for a few days. Do not forget them.

2) Check often to see how much riper they have become. Leave them in the bag and check back later if they are not ripe enough. Be careful not to over-ripen the bananas.

3) In case of overripe bananas, you can try using them for a banana pie, banana bread, or you can even make smoothies with them.

Apart from this method, there are some other chemical methods as well. Sometimes, these fruits are kept in blocked rooms that have Calcium carbide. Acetylene is emitted through the room, it heats up, and thus the ripening of the banana occurs. However, such harmful process should be avoided at home. The paper bag method is the recommended way to ripen bananas.

Super Health Secrets - 3 Quick Super Health Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are probably the easiest way to make your diet much healthier with virtually no effort all. Just throw some great ingredients in the blender and whiz them up for a quick and tasty meal. Read on and I'll show you some little smoothie tricks and recipes for making the most of them.

One of the best ways to use smoothies is to make drinks with nutritious leafy greens. Far more fun than eating big salads, this is a fast, easy, tasty way to get a nice bump in hydration as well as vitamin and mineral rich drink. This makes these recipes excellent for breakfast when you're most dehydrated first thing in the morning.

Smoothie Recipe

Try these for starters.

Recipe One: Banana and Spinach

This one's super easy. Just peel a couple of ripe bananas and throw them in the blender. Fill the rest with spinach and add a cup or two of water, depending on how thick you'd like it.

This makes about a pint of tasty bright green smoothie. The sweetness of the banana is cut by the mild bitterness of the spinach giving a smooth, creamy flavoured drink.

Get already washed baby spinach - it's a little sweeter tasting and saves you the hassle of washing every leaf yourself. Frozen spinach doesn't work well so I wouldn't recommend trying it! Feel free to throw in some ice if you'd like a cold shake.

Recipe Two: Green Grapefruit

Feeling really lazy? Roughly peel and throw a couple of red grapefruits in the blender, pulp them, add a tablespoon or two of your favourite green superfood, like crystal mana (a high end algae), spirulina or chlorella or even a multi-green product. Add a couple of ice cubes and blend.  You'll need a fairly powerful blender to smoothly mix citrus fruits.

Recipe Three: Kale & Pineapple

Kale has even more going for it that spinach and blends great with the tart sweetness of the pineapple. Simply throw a cup of pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen), with a banana (again, fresh of frozen to suit), a couple of big handfuls of kale and a few freshly picked mint leaves.

As with all these smoothie recipes you can add more or less water if you'd like a longer drink or a thicker smoothie and can use fresh of frozen fruit ingredients if you'd like more of a frosty shake. Enjoy!

Fruit Smoothie Recipes - Smoothie Mix Using Lemon, Raspberries, and Peach - It Tastes Like Summer!

The lemon is an oval yellow fruit grown from the lemon tree. Used throughout the world for its juice, pulp, and rind.

Its juice is about 5 % to 6% citric acid which gives the lemon a very sour taste and makes it very difficult to eat raw. On the other hand, this sour taste lends itself very well to a number of lemon flavored drinks and candies.

Smoothie Recipe

Nutritional research has shown the lemon to be a very important source of many important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients including:

  • Vitamin C (53 mg)
  • Calcium (26 mg)
  • Potassium (136 mg)
  • Phosphorus (16 mg)

Other lemon nutrients are Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamine, and Vitamin B6. Obviously the lemon is packed with fruit nutrition and offers us a great deal of benefits if we add it to our diets.

If our only use for lemons is to mix it into sweet, sugary lemonade or as a garnish on a glass of iced tea, then we aren't taking full advantage of this fruit.

The average lemon has about 3 tablespoons of juice and it is easier to get out if you let the lemon come to room temperature before squeezing. But what to do with the juice now that you have it? A quick Internet search will bring up a whole bunch of fruit smoothie recipes and you might even find yourself making lots of ice tea or lemonade and using the fresh squeezed juice to add a touch more lemon flavor.

And lemonade is a great ingredient to use in fruit smoothie recipes. Just like adding a fruit juice, lemonade gives your smoothie a nice texture, good flavor -and depending on how sweet or tart you make it, lemonade can give your favorite fruit smoothie, a good "wake-up kick!" Here is a delightful summer time smoothie mix that is very easy to make and delicious to drink.

In your smoothie blender mix:

  • 1 cup of frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup of chilled lemonade- You can mix up some Crystal Light or Snapple and add your fresh squeezed lemon juice to taste.
  • 1 cup of low-fat peach yogurt

Mix and serve in a chilled or thermal glass. You will love the mixture of flavors in this one.

Cinnamon Apple Sauce:

Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon over a cup of apple sauce for just under 200 calories. Cut out extra calories by enjoying just half a cup instead.

Throw in a handful of raisins for a small serving of dried fruit, if desired. Just be careful about how many you add. Dried fruit is full of nutrients, as well as calories.

Peanut Butter Crackers:

Spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter onto 5 whole wheat crackers for a satisfying, protein-rich snack. Select crackers that are lower in sodium and that have some fiber content to make this even more filling.

This easy snack recipe is more cost effective than constantly buying packaged snacks all the time. It is also generally lower in calories, contains less sodium, and more nutritious.

Not a fan of peanut butter? Try another nut butter instead, such as cashew or almond butter. If you are allergic to nuts, top your crackers with thinly cut, low-fat cheese slices or hummus instead.

Hummus with Fresh Vegetables:

Dip baby carrots, celery, and cucumber slices in a few tablespoons of hummus. This is a good source of protein and way lower in calories than ranch dressing or dip!

Hummus comes in a wide variety of flavors. Choose from lemon flavored hummus to garlic or even a spicy variety. It is a great staple to keep on hand to prepare many easy snack recipes that are tasty and good for you!

Mini Quesadilla:

Craving Mexican food, but want to avoid the sodium and calories? Try this easy, lower calorie version of my favorite easy Mexican recipe.

Fill a small, whole-wheat wrap with a handful of low or reduced fat shredded cheese. Add in chopped tomatoes, olive, jalapenos, or other vegetables if desired.

Fold the wrap in half. Microwave on high for 1 minute or until the cheese is melted all the way. Enjoy with a side of Salsa or hot sauce, if desired.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie:
Although smoothies are sometimes high in sugar and calories, they don't have to be. Make you own at home to ensure a low-calorie snack recipe.

Combine 1 cup of low-fat yogurt, 1 sliced banana, 1/2 cup of chopped strawberries (fresh or frozen), and a handful of ice. Blend until it reaches desired consistency.

For thicker smoothies, add a bit more yogurt. If it's too thick, add more ice or even pour in a little water or milk.

Use different types of fruit for more variety. Try pineapple, mango, and different types of berries. Even throw in a handful of fresh spinach leaves for extra nutrients, but little effect on the fruity flavor of your smoothie.

These easy snack recipes are high in nutritional value and low in calories. Keep snack time interesting by making variations to snack recipes that you frequently use, such as using different types of cheese, fruits or vegetables.

Fruit Smoothie Recipe With Apricots

I ran across a great smoothie mix the other day that used, of all things, Apricots! I don't know about you, but Apricots have never been very high on my list of must eat fruit.

Its not that I dislike them, on the contrary, I like them very much. But for some reason Apricots just never seem to come to mind when I am at the store doing my fruit buying for the week.

Smoothie Recipe

And that is something of a shame because it turns out that Apricots have a very long and interesting history.

Apricot history goes back to antiquity and it is believed that the fruit is originally native to Persia. It was introduced to Europe thanks to Alexander the Great.

From these beginnings the apricot is now grown around the world and is an important crop for Turkey, Iran, Italy, and Greece to name just a few.

The fruit itself is very tasty and is a very good source of Vitamins A and C, Iron, and Protein. And, because of its high amount of dietary fiber, Apricots are sometimes use to relieve constipation.

Apricots also have very high amounts of carotenoid antioxidants that can help to prevent heart disease and reduce "bad" (LDL) cholesterol levels.

The Chinese have long used apricots in their traditional medicines to regenerate body fluid, "detoxifying", and relieving thirst.

And the most interesting factoid I ran across is that, during the second world war, American Tankers became very superstitious of Apricots to the point where they would not eat apricots nor allow apricots in their tanks. This superstition seems to come from myths that the Sherman tanks of the era would break down when in close proximity to canned apricots.

Anyway, enough about the history of the Apricot. Here is the recipe for a really tasty fruit smoothie recipe using the apricot:

Blend one (1) cup of either canned or fresh apricot halves, chilled and cut smaller with one (1) cup of Orange Sherbet. Blend quickly in your juicer and serve in chilled glasses. A summer type treat you can enjoy all year around!
