Green Tingler Smoothie

2 fresh oranges, skin removed

1-2 stalks celery, to taste preference.

1 ripe pear

1 handful spinach, (or other leafy green you like)

1 ripe banana

1 tsp Spirulina powder

1/2 to 1 inch piece of fresh Ginger, (to taste, more for vata and kapha types).

water, to desired consistency

Blend all ingredients in the blender until smooth. You can play with the amounts until you find the perfect combination for your taste and body constitution. ENJOY!

Ayurveda - Recipes For Three Doshas

According to Ayurveda, the three Doshas are mainly responsible for the proper functioning of the human organism. The imbalance within these three Doshas causes various kinds of diseases and discomfort in the body. However, when there three Doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha remain undisturbed in their respective organs they maintain a proper balance.

There are various kinds of Ayurvedic recipes which help to keep these three Doshas in proper balance. These recipes are quite simple and can be prepared and consumed to keep the body as well as mind in order without any problems. All Ayurveda recipes for Doshas use natural ingredients for preparing the food. Most of the ingredients include vegetables, grains, cereals, pulses, spices and other natural ingredients. These Ayurveda recipes for Doshas are cooked in simple style and are easily digestible.

There are different recipes available which are meant for balancing each Doshas. There are Ayurveda recipes which help in balancing each Dosha separately and there are other recipes too which help in balancing all the three doshas together. Some of the Ayurvedic food for balancing all the three doshas separately include, cooked oatmeal, psyllium chapattis or flatbreads, rice pudding, khichari, cooked tofu, mung dal soup, lauki squash, green leafy vegetables, steamed asparagus, cream of lauki soup, stewed fruit, lassi, ginger lemon appetizer drink, spiced tea, spiced milk, pomegranate chutney, liver flush recipe, spice mix, lentil powder and many more. All these food include natural ingredients and can be cooked at home. Consuming such food helps in maintaining of all the three doshas within a proper balance in the body.

1- Kicharee- This particular Ayurvedic recipe, which is a basic mixture of lentil and rice, is a porridge kind of food that balances all the Doshas.

Ingredients:

Required items-

2 Cups White Basmati rice
Cups Split Mung dal (yellow)
2 TBS. Ghee (clarified butter)
1 inch Fresh ginger root
1 small handful of cilantro leaves
1/2 tsp. Salt (rock salt is best)
1 pinch Hing (also called Asafoetida)
1/2 tsp. Turmeric
1/2 tsp. Coriander powder
1 tsp. Whole cumin seeds
1/2 tsp. Mustard seeds
5 to 7 cups of Water depending upon the consistency desired, climate and the type of vessel used.
Directions:
Wash the lentil and rice together. In a heated a pan on add Ghee (clarified butter), pour in the mustard seeds, coriander powder, Turmeric, Hing, and whole cumin seeds. Stir all of the ingredients together. Add rice, lentils and stir again. Now add the water, salt and boil the concoction. Simmer the preparation in low heat, with the lid on the vessel, continue cooking till both the lentil and rice become soft and are intermingled. The cilantro leaves are to be added before serving.

This recipe is very easy to digest, helps in Tri-Dosha balancing, and useful for detoxifying also.

2- Yellow Mung Dal Soup

Ingredients required:

1 Cup of Yellow split Mung dal ( yellow lentil)
6 Cups of Water
1/2 tsp. of Black mustard seeds
1 tsp. of whole cumin seeds
2 tBS. of Ghee (clarified butter)
1 pinch of Hing
2 TBS. Chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1/2 tsp. Rock salt
1/2 tsp. Ground coriander seeds

Directions:
Wash the Mung dal. Heat a pot on medium heat, add the dal and water together in the pot. Cook for 30 minutes. Stir the mixture occasionally to prevent burning and becoming sticky. Add Ghee to another pan and heat at medium heat. When it melts add the spices. Now add the spiced Ghee mix to the soup. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves. Add salt to taste.

Benefits of Yellow Mung Dal Soup as an Ayurvedic recipe:

This dish reduces the affects of Kapha and Vata Doshas. The spices and cilantro in this preparation reduces the Pitta Dosha.
